Managing multiple languages for your guidebooks

SmoothStay makes it easy to reach a global audience by automatically translating your guidebooks! Here’s how it works and what you need to know.

✏️ Automatic Translation Overview

SmoothStay uses GTranslate’s statistical machine translations to provide reliable language support for most purposes. With coverage of over 100 languages, your guidebooks are automatically translated, making it easy for guests from around the world to access your content.

Note: Machine translations are not as precise as human translations but offer a practical solution for broad accessibility.

🏷️ Default Language for All Guidebooks

In your Brand Settings, you’ll find the Default Language for Guidebooks option. This sets the default language for any new guidebooks you create.

To view or change the default language:

  1. Go to Settings > Brand.

  2. Under Brand Profile, look for the section labeled Default language for guidebooks (see the red-circled example in the images!).

  3. Search for your preferred default language (e.g., English, Spanish, French).

Note: Changing the default language in your Brand Settings will only apply to new units created after the change. Existing units will keep their current language settings unless you manually update them.

🏠 Overriding the Default Language for a Specific Unit

Want a different language for a specific property or unit? You can override the brand default for individual guidebooks:

  1. Go to Units and select the unit you want to edit.

  2. Navigate to the Content tab and click Language.

  3. Here, you can set a different default language for just this unit.

💡 Tips for Using Multiple Languages

  • Clear, simple text makes translations more accurate.

  • For crucial details (like safety instructions), consider adding clarifications or using a consistent base language for clarity.

  • If needed, you can manually review translations for important sections.
