๐ŸŽจ How to change category and subcategory icons

Customize your guidebook's visual identity by choosing from over 7,000 icons that match your brand and help guests navigate your content quickly and intuitively.

Where icons appear

Icons show up in two places in your guidebook:

  • Menu icons โ€“ Appear in your guidebook with a transparent background, using either your brand or property accent color (based on your property settings).

  • Map icons โ€“ When you enable "Show this article in the map" for an article, its subcategory icon appears on the map with a light green background and black accent, ensuring clear visibility for guests.

Choosing the right icons creates a cohesive look and makes your guidebook easier to scan at a glance.

How to change an icon

Step 1: Open the editor

  1. Go to Content Hub in your dashboard.

  2. Click the three-dot menu (โ‹ฎ) next to any category or subcategory.

  3. Select Edit from the dropdown.

Step 2: Choose your icon

  1. Click the icon preview to open the icon picker.

  2. Select an icon family from the dropdown: Material Symbols, Material Icons, or Phosphorโ€”over 7,000 icons to choose from.

  3. Browse icons by category using the left sidebar, or use the search bar to find specific icons (like "home," "food," "key").

  4. Sort results by Popularity or Name using the sort button.

  5. Click an icon to select itโ€”you'll see it preview with your color scheme.

Step 3: Adjust the style (optional)

Use the Icon style dropdown to control how bold or light your icon appears:

  • Default โ€“ Standard weight

  • Filled โ€“ Solid shapes, maximum visibility

  • Bold โ€“ Thick lines, prominent

  • Light โ€“ Thin lines, minimal look

  • Thin โ€“ Extra-thin lines, most delicate style

  • Special โ€“ Two-tone style (Phosphor family only)

Not all icon families support every style option.

Step 4: Save

Click Save to apply your changes.

Any icon changes automatically update across all guidebooks where that category or subcategory appears. Change once, update everywhereโ€”saving you time and keeping your brand consistent.

Tips for choosing great icons

  • Match the content โ€“ Use icons that clearly represent the category (fork and knife for dining, bed for accommodation, location pin for places).

  • Test readability โ€“ Preview how icons look with your brand colors to ensure they're easy to recognize.

  • Stay consistent โ€“ Use the same icon family and style throughout your guidebook for a professional appearance.

  • Think like a guest โ€“ Choose universally recognized symbols that don't need explanation.โ€‹
